Fun Time Ice Skating

by Kay Heitsch

When I was in the 9th grade I lived with my Aunt Carmel and Uncle Fred in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In the winter Grand Rapids is cold and has a lot of snow.

Aunt Carmel liked to keep us busy doing fun things in the winter. We went sledding a lot and we also enjoyed ice skating.
As nature would have it Aunt Carmel was prematurely grey. At the time she had decided not to color her hair, even though she was only in her 30's.

One day we were all ice skating when some boys started to chase us around on the ice. They would grab our hats and take off with them. Aunt Carmel looked like one of us with her hat on. However, when these boys grabbed her hat and saw the grey hair they stopped cold.

I'll never forget the look in their faces as they apologized over and over. I smile every time I think of this funny story.

Aunt Carmel is in her 80's now and guess what? She colors her hair now and it's light brown, not grey.

The New Doll

by Kay Heitsch
One of my favorite Christmas memories is the year we gave our daughter Shannon, age 3, a new doll.
Shannon loved dolls and her favorite was a small Raggedy Ann doll she named, "Nanny." I could never figure out why she liked Nanny so much until the year we gave her a new doll.
This new doll did everything, unlike Nanny who did nothing. This new doll had eyes that blinked, when you gave her water in a bottle, she wet her diaper. But best of all she had batteries and when you would lie her down she would cry until you picked her up.
Shannon seemed happy when she opened the present and saw this new doll. I was excited to show her all this doll could do.
About 15 minutes later I was busy doing something when Shannon walked up. She had the doll in her little hands holding her up towards me. Now Shannon did not have a smile on her face. She was looking very serious as she looked at me with her big brown eyes and said, "Take the batteries out!"

Do I Look That Old?

by Kay Heitsch

Yesterday while I was out and about a checkout girl asked a guy if the woman with him was his mother. He said, "No." However, the woman in question overheard the conversation.

The woman in question walked up to the checkout girl and shouted, "Do I look that old?" She continued her rant as the people around tried to help calm things down by adding some positives remarks. Come to find out this woman was this guys younger sister. Oops!

I thought I may need to call 911 for help, but everyone went on their way without incident. I heard the "sister" say to her brother as they went out the door, "I think she must have been trying to hit on you!"
