Lula Belle

 by Kay Heitsch

Not long after a tiny southern lady, Gracie "T" Jones* (85+) moved in the Memory Care Center I knew she was going to be funny. Just the fact that she always insisted on using the "T" when she introduced herself made me smile.

One day I was walking down the hall when Gracie called out to me. Gracie had been reciting some off color poems she had learned from, way back when.

I stopped to see what she wanted. Gracie laughed then announced, "You know Lula Belle, if Momma heard me talking like this she wouldn't like it! So, I'm going to tell her YOU made me say them."

I chuckled then responded, "Whatever Gracie. I just want you to know I've been called a lot of things in my life, but Lula Belle was not one of them."

*Name changed except the "T".
